The Inexorable Surprise

Some years back I saw a great, blue star,

glowing in all its magnitude, growing

high in the midnight sky. It was beautiful,

radiant, and I followed it each night for

as long as I could. I watched as the

great, blue star began to transform

slowly with time, stretch far across the sky -

and suddenly knew that I would soon have to say

goodbye to my old, familiar friend.

But I didn't know then what I know now -

that it was, all along, there from the very

beginning - that great, blue star all a part of

the inexorable surprise.
