Something Ephemeral

We created a world

made of rippled sheets

and waves in our movements.

Sunny days when there was

heat between us

and rain from our temples

when we laid there in exhaust.

We stayed there stagnant, still,

and then kept our backs turned.

But I was reminded of the waning sky

and created constellations on your back;

woke up to more laughter

and then of course goodbye.

We smoothed the sheets,

wiped our sweat,

and said a sweet So Long

that reminded me of the hush of an ocean storm

that settled, at last.
